Surrounding Villages

Vaujany Mont-Frais

Altitude 1650m: ski area offers some gentle cruising blue and red runs with the opportunity to tackle a couple of black runs too. The village of Vaujany itself is picturesque and has local sports facilities including an indoor pool with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna; entry is free with a VISALP ski pass. The village is also accessible by cable cars that allow foot passengers to travel making this is an alternative option for non-skiers and exhausted skiers alike.

Oz en Oisan

Altitude 1350m: is another valley that has some tree-lined skiing and offers something at all levels.

Villard Reculas

is accessed by a selection of runs for all abilities. This area is North-West facing and therefore slightly more protected from the sun.

Huez Village

is connected to the resort by cable car and can be reached via a couple of runs. The old village is quaint and possesses some traditional features of a French mountain village. From here one can do some walks in The Sarenne valley and follow a mountain path to Villard. If you amble up the Gorges de Sarennes you are able to meet the chair lift and this will transport you back to Alpe d’Huez.

Auris en Oisans

Altitude 1600m: is another large ski area that is self-contained with drag and chair lifts. It is however connected to Alpe D’Huez by an impressive chair lift that quickly takes you down into the valley of the Sarenne Gorge and up the other side.

Most people find a week is not enough time to really explore! Nevertheless for those who have been before or are looking for that little bit more there is the option of a day in each of the neighbouring resorts of Les Deux Alps or Serre Chevalier. The One Day passes for these resorts are offered free with the VISALP pass sold in Alpe d’Huez.

Also nearby is the off-piste resort of La Grave for the adrenaline busters.
